Wooden Furniture Finishing Processes

In furniture production, the application of varnish is a process used to provide a protective and aesthetic coating to furniture surfaces. Varnish emphasizes the natural wood color and texture of the furniture, while also protecting the surface from scratches, stains and other external factors. Varnish application usually involves the following steps:
Surface Preparation: It is important to prepare the furniture surface for polishing. Old paints, stains or varnishes on the surface are removed. The wooden surface is sanded to be smooth and even.
Coloring: Coloring can be done before polishing to give the desired color to the furniture piece. This is a process done to provide the desired tone or color transparency to the furniture. Wood stain, pigments or special coloring products can be used for coloring.
Selection of Lacquer: Different types of lacquer can be selected depending on the purpose of use of the furniture, the type of wood and the desired result. For example, if you want to preserve the natural wood color of the furniture, you can choose a transparent lacquer. You can give the furniture a different look with a colored lacquer. Ananas DC offers its customers four different lacquer options, RAW – HONEY – FOREST – DARK, which it uses in its own products, and in addition to these, finishing processes can be done with different RAL codes.
The polish can be applied to the furniture surface with different application tools such as brush, roller or spray gun. The polish is usually applied in several layers, with appropriate drying time between each layer. This ensures that the polish adheres to the surface and is more durable. Depending on the type of polish, matte, semi-matte, semi-gloss or gloss polishes can be preferred to preserve the natural texture of the furniture or to create a shiny surface.
In the Ananas DC polishing workshop, there are different areas for each process. These are divided into areas such as sanding, polishing and drying, respectively.
Sanding and Re-application: After the first coat of finish has dried, the surface is usually lightly sanded. This will help smooth the surface and help a second coat of finish adhere better. A second coat of finish may then be applied, with additional coats added if necessary. Sanding and cleaning may be repeated between each coat.
After the application of the varnish, the furniture surface is usually left for a certain period of time to dry. It is then recommended to leave the furniture in a ventilated area for a few days to allow the varnish to dry completely. This stage allows the varnish to harden completely and increase its durability.
